Since 2008, the International Climate Initiative (ICI) of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) has been financing climate and biodiversity projects in developing and newly industrialised countries, as well as countries in transition.

Since the International Climate Initiative was launched in 2008, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety has initiated 277 projects with funding totalling some 634 million euros. Additional capital contributed by the agencies implementing the projects and funding from other public and private-sector sources bring the total volume disbursed for ICI projects to over 2.19 billion euros.

evaluation

Between January 2011 and December 2012 the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) is conducting the first independent evaluation of ICI. The aim initially is to assess the results and impact of 115 individual projects and the programme as a whole.
