Goals

Learning the lessons of climate protection.

A special programme covering a wide range of activities exists for schools and educational establishments such as kindergartens, colleges and universities. Measures naturally include energy saving in the building itself through enhanced energy efficiency and greater use of renewables. Funding is available which can be used, e.g.  to finance a new heating system or implement a model climate protection project.

We must generate awareness for climate protection
There is also another way to save CO2, and one in which educational establishments are important partners: by changing their behaviour, every single person can help to save energy. And where better to generate public awareness for climate protection than in schools and other educational establishments?
For this reason, there are a vast number of actions especially geared to educational establishments. These include provision of teaching aids and materials, teacher training and the implementation of model projects, as well as holding climate protection days and many other projects aimed at raising awareness for climate protection.

The result: low CO2 levels and low costs
Of course, the prime goal of the German government's Climate Initiative is to lower CO2 levels and thus protect our environment. This goal benefits everyone, both in Germany and throughout the world.
Those who make commitments and take action to save CO2 gain twice over. For those who save energy generally save money as well. Even small steps such as the use of energy-saving lights or switching off the standby mode on appliances can considerably lower energy costs. Larger-scale measures such as the installation of a photovoltaics system naturally offer much greater saving potential in the long term.
