Action on Climate!

Protecting the climate is a challenge for society as a whole, which can be addressed successfully in the education sector with support from various social groups. Climate protection will become increasingly important both in the workplace and in the private sphere. Schools and education establishments are increasingly recognising that they have a role to play in changing attitudes by systematically integrating climate issues into teaching and learning processes and also in improving the skills and knowledge of young people in this area.

The aim of Action on Climate! launched by BildungsCent e.V., a non-profit organisation that supports change processes in the education sector, is to improve students' awareness of climate issues, offer answers to unresolved questions, and provide best practice models for use at climate action days. BildungsCent e.V. is supporting 1000 schools' efforts to cut their CO2 emissions. Each school is given a budget of € 500 in order to fund measures that help to protect the climate. The first 700 applicants also receive a well-equipped "climate box" which is simple to use and can identify and harness CO2 reduction potentials. Other attractive materials can also be requested. The experience and best practice models developed by participating schools will be summarised and published in a service- and user-oriented climate protection manual for schools.
